Inside story of James Faulkner’s allegations

Adelaide Oval security guard Sharna Bremner thought she would be treated as a “mystery shopper” when her bosses at SA Security and Investigation Services asked her to investigate a complaint against Tasmanian Test cricketer James Faulkner. But it didn’t take long for the young woman to realise that she was dealing with something much more serious – and confronting. The mention of a real person, James Faulkner, with additional details about the story caught prying eyes. The subject line is less informative but the pre-header text take the place of missing information to explain what happened. Australia all-rounder James Faulkner is under investigation for an alleged social media breach after he posted a picture thanking his “boyfriend” for attending the Allan Border Medal. Google and Mozilla are ready for Chrome and Firefox version 100 to break some websites

Google and Mozilla engineers have already planned for Chrome and Firefox version 100 to break some web sites, with both companies saying that it's time to clean up the mess that's been made. Chrome 89, which ships in early March, will remove support for the "window.showModalDialog" DOM API, which is an ancient piece of code from 1998 that conflicts with Web standards and exists only for compatibility with Microsoft's aging Internet Explorer browser.  The next time you see a badly broken website, you might just have to send an angry email to its webmaster . With the release of Chrome 100 and Firefox 93 on Tuesday, Google and Mozilla are removing features from their browsers that some websites still use to hide text from visitors. This means when those sites haven’t updated their code , they will show the “hidden” content — usually because the site ignored their visitor's requests for a more accessible design. Looks like Chrome and Firefox are just around a ma...

Spotify wants to beat YouTube at audio

YouTube might be the world's most popular video streaming service, but it is still second to Spotify in one area: music. This is according to a new report by Recode. Spotify has 70 million subscribers, while YouTube still beats it in terms of number of daily users. However, YouTube's listening sessions are much shorter than those of Spotify and Recode believes that this is why there may be an opportunity for Spotify to win over YouTuber's audio audience. A new Spotify portal for artists and their teams lets them upload audio clips directly to the streaming service. It's a direct shot at YouTube, which has grown in popularity as an alternative to SoundCloud for musicians , podcasters and audiobook narrators. Spotify and YouTube may seem like the same thing to you or me—audio or video on demand, accessed through a Web browser. But Spotify is investing heavily in new features that make it stand out from its competitors, especially YouTube. Spotify is moving beyond the mus...

Google’s Nest Doorbell can’t take the cold

People on Reddit are reporting their Google’s Nest Doorbells are quitting after a few months in the cold, making them effectively useless. The devices stop working once they hit below -4 Fahrenheit (-20 Celsius), which is well within the range of many states in the US right now. “We want to let you know that we have discovered an issue with Nest Hello where the doorbell can stop functioning in temperatures below -4°F. This is caused by a suboptimal firmware update that incorrectly monitors the temperature inside the camera,” Google said in a note first spotted by AndroidPolice . “This does not impact your ability to make and receive calls with Google Duo or your Wi-Fi network. We are fixing this issue with an automatic firmware update to be released within the next week…” The company also says it will roll out the fix automatically between January 14th and February 2nd  I was excited to take the Nest Doorbell and test it in my hometown of NYC. However, Google made a vital ove...
