Intel’s first discrete Arc desktop GPUs are coming in Q2 2022

Unveiled today, Intel’s first discrete desktop GPUs, known as Xe-HPGD (high performance 128 EUs), are scheduled to launch in the second quarter of 2022. The game-changing GPUs will redefine the graphics and compute capabilities of the data center by delivering on the promise of extreme compute-on-demand.

Intel has been publicly discussing its Xe graphics architecture for years, but it has so far resisted the urge to make an entire GPU silicon package. Now, Intel has announced that a discrete Xe-based GPU will debut in Q2 2022. If you’re wondering why adding GPUs doesn’t sound like something “new,” it’s because this announcement is mostly a confirmation of what we already knew.

Intel is about to launch its first discrete graphics processing unit – it's called Xe-HPG. The chipmaker said that the GPU will target gamers and professionals, delivering powerful graphics performance. According to Intel's principal engineer, Raja Koduri, the Xe-HP graphics chips are coming in Q2 2022 and will be powered by the next-gen Gen12 architecture.

Intel announced today that it’ll ship its first discrete GPU for desktop PCs — a.k.a, the first one to include its own memory and not share main memory with the CPU — in Q2 2022, two years later than planned. It’s still hoping to launch its Xe-HPG (high-performance graphics) GPU line for desktop workstations this year, though it hasn’t announced a release date. Xe-HPC (high-performance computing) GPUs are set for 2023, as well as the launch of Intel’s in-house Foveros 3D packaging technology that should allow for even better performance and lower power consumption
