Russia does not need Beijing's support for actions in Ukraine, says China

China has said that it did not need Beijing's support for actions in Ukraine, as Russia is capable of sorting out the truth from falsehood. Russia does not need China's support for its actions in Ukraine, the Chinese foreign ministry said on Monday, after Russian President Vladimir Putin criticised Western nations for backing Kiev.

Russia already enjoys widespread political support on the world stage, so it doesn't need China's support for its actions in Ukraine, a senior Chinese diplomat said on Friday, adding that Beijing had not expected Russia to take it military action. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that when dealing with the situation in Ukraine, Russia does not need China's position on this issue.

China's support for Russia's actions in Ukraine is not required, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said. He admitted co-operation between the two countries was "slightly exaggerated". His comments were made after talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, who said "we respect the right of Russia to safeguard its legitimate interests".

China will not back Russia if it takes military action in Ukraine, one of Beijing's former top diplomats has warned. "Moscow should not hope for any Chinese support [in Ukraine] and if the worst comes to the worst China will not necessarily stand on Russia's side." "The situation in the Crimea is very complicated but I believe that Russia does need to resolve the issue by peaceful means," he said.
