 Malignant Mesothelioma is a rare cancer caused by exposure to asbestos and forms in the protective lining that covers the lungs and abdomen, called the mesothelium. Malignant Mesothelioma (MM) is the most serious asbestos-related disease and is seen as a tumour of the lining of the pleura or abdomen.

What is malignant mesothelioma? Malignant mesothelioma is a rare, aggressive form of cancer that develops in the thin layer of tissue that covers the majority of your internal organs (mesothelium). The most common area affected by malignant mesothelioma is the lining of the lungs and chest wall. Less commonly, the lining of the abdomen and rarely the sac surrounding the heart, or the sac surrounding the testis may be affected. Mesothelioma sometimes spreads (metastasizes) to other parts of your body.

Malignant mesothelioma involves cancerous mesothelial cells that are found in the sac lining the chest (pleura), abdomen (peritoneum), heart (pericardium) or testis  Pleural Mesothelioma is the most common type of Malignant Mesothelioma  Malignant mesothelioma has a very poor prognosis. Survival after diagnosis is typically less than one year.

Malignant mesothelioma is an asbestos-related cancer of the thin membrane (mesothelium) that lines the chest and abdomen. The most common location is in the outer covering of the lungs but it may also arise in the lining of other parts of the body such as the heart, abdomen and testicles.
